Buz joins Hyper Island in New York

We're stepping up our stateside presence with the help of a new adviser, former head of Wieden + Kennedy, New York, Buz Sawyer. Mr. Sawyer has joined Hyper Island to lead its U.S. expansion strategy after leaving his post as managing director of Wieden + Kennedy in April.
While Mr. Sawyer, a strategic development adviser, admits he's not a digital expert, he believes his experience clocking time at agencies affords Hyper Island the chance to better attract candidates to its program from U.S. shops. "They know digital, they know education, but what they don't know is the U.S. ad agency business," said Mr. Sawyer of his new employer. "My job is to figure out strategies for them to grow, both short and long term." Read the full article here

Wood turned into gold

Hyper Island graduate Richard Engström struck gold at Cannes Lions for his participation in the Tansu shoe campaign for Onitsuku Tiger.
Since the start of Made Of Japan campaign in 2007, trainer brand Onitsuku Tiger has created a series of shoe sculptures, each representing different aspects of Japanese culture. The 'Tansu' celebrates the Japanese woodworking tradition.
Richard Engström graduated from Hyper Island in 2006. He now works for Amsterdam Worldwide. Besides winning gold, his team was nominated for four other Lions, one more for the Tansu Shoe and the other three for an Asics campaign.
Congrats, Richard!

A letter from Cannes

Last week Hyper Island sent a few co-workers to Cannes, a letter got sent back home: Here's what they wrote:
"We had one mission; to get to know as many new people as possible. Well, maybe a mission and a half: we also wanted to have some fun. We did both!
We congratulated of our friends, winning lion after lion, we had drinks with amazing people from all over the world, we had chats with agencies on how to change the world of communication. We talked about Hyper Island in New York, in Sweden, in Australia, in South Africa. In Norway, in Manchester, in LA, in.... well, basically everywhere. We talked to Spike Jonze when we were at the screening of his new short story, I'm here - A love story in an Absolut world, by our friends at TBWA\Chiat\Day, New York.
- We hugged Bob Greenberg , and took a photo of it,
- We mingled through the Massive Music Party...
I'm so glad we did all of this, because we met a lot of new friends, we had a lot of fun, and we spread the word about Hyper Island. I hope I'll get to see you all in Cannes next year, accepting your lions, enjoying the sun or networking like crazy."
