Hyper Island in Lebanon

Director of the Hyper Island Diploma Programs, Hussain H. Kabani and Digital Media student David Walegren attended the Young Leader’s Social Media Cafe in Lebanon to speak about Hyper Island. The conference hosted around 20 speakers coming from various backgrounds but with one common interest: Social Media.
Most speakers talked about how social media today is being used to cause social change in their community. The Middle East is struggling with many issues ranging from freedom of expression to social inequality. Social media is acting as a catalyst in resolving cultural issues and not just providing new channels for advertisers to target consumers.

Felted ESKIMO

Our students are constantly working on fun, inspiring and beautiful projects. This one was a collaboration between Karlskrona students Åse Holte & Johan Rosell. They've designed a logo for their own company. We wanted to produce and market laptop sleeves with a Nordic touch and feel to the product. The logo has now been beautifully reproduced in the shape of a plush toy.

Growing out of their clothes

During the ”Marketing & Promotion” module at Hyper Island the Digital Media class got given a mission, to promote the school, the class and the individuals in it. The Digital Media 11 class in Karlskrona came up with the following idea for a sponsoring campaign:

"After hours of idea developing, planning, sewing and having fun the T-Shirt sponsor campaign ”Help Us Grow” saw the light of day. The T-shirt symbolizes us, 36 students, and how we are growing out of our clothes. The seams are bursting as we are taking place in the industry!
We wrapped the small t-shirt in nice paper, packaged it in a black paper bag and sent it to companies, magazines and bloggers world wide", says Digital Media student Ida Ragnarsson.

Ida Ragnarsson was also interviewed in Swedish trade magazine Resumé. Read the article here

Armed Forces Module

Starting 2010 the Swedish military service is no longer mandatory. The Armed Forces are looking to attract talent – brain rather than muscles – to fullfill their missions abroad. Our student's challenge was to rebrand the Swedish Armed Forces from a traditional defensive collective into a modern employeer. How did they do it? Interactive Art Director students Robbin Ingvarsson, Fredrik Holmberg, Kristina Herngren, Anke Buchta, Simon Schlüter & Waldemar Wegelin made a movie about the process:

20 Things I learned at a Master Class

What do we learn at a Hyper Island Master Class? Participant Kathy Hepinstall made a list Did you for instance know that Banner ads are uncool, like a golfer’s pants and most people in the world will never own a computer. They will interconnect with the digital world on their cell phones. Even in places where there is no electricity, people use their cellphones...
